So You Want to Be a Lawyer?

Are you at a crossroads considering whether or whether not it is a good idea to study law? Are you unsure if it is the right path for you? Does the idea of being a lawyer interest you? If you answered yes to any of the previous questions then it may be a good idea to take time to sit down and weigh your options. Going to law school is a big decision and not a cheap one. A decision like that requires contemplation and an affirmative decision.

The first thing to do is make a pros and cons list and reflect on your life. This may seem elementary but I guarantee it will help you with your decision. Why are you considering becoming a lawyer? Is it because you love shows like The Good Wife or Law and Order? Or is it because you genuinely are interested in how law in the United States works? Once you are able to ask yourself important questions you can move on to weighing the pros and cons.

First off studying to be a lawyer is not an easy endeavor. It requires copious amounts of time and effort. In addition to receiving good grades as an undergrad, you must score well and pass the LSAT exams. The LSAT scores and your undergrad gpa will determine where you are admitted to law school. If you get into law school, the cost may be really high. You may be able to receive aid and scholarships, but it is still not cheap.

One great pro is that going to law school can be hugely beneficial. After you graduate you will have the necessary skills to be a practicing lawyer.  You have studied hard, and now finally have the title of lawyer. Paying off loans may hurt you in the beginning, but people always need lawyers. Last but not least, make sure you are becoming a lawyer for the right reasons.

In the past I have heard numerous people that become lawyers because their parents wanted them to or they thought that it would be a good idea without having interest in it. Some people just become lawyers because they think they will make a lot of money. People commonly associate lawyers with having expensive cars, homes, and nice clothes, but it is not always that way. Finding a job you love is way more rewarding than receiving a high paycheck. Nowadays it is easier than ever to afford all the things you want with Groupon Coupons. They can help you save on some elegant stores like Zales!

Now that you know the good and bad about becoming a lawyer, take some time to think about the route you want to take. Do not force yourself into a career that you do not actually want. Instead think about your strengths and weaknesses and make sure you know what is good for you. If you think law school is right for you, then go after it and become a great lawyer!
